Frequently Asked Questions

Learn more about osteopathy and its beneficial and therapeutic effects.

Osteopathy is a way of detecting, treating and preventing health problems through movement, stretching and massage of muscles and joints. Osteopathy is based on the principle that a person’s well-being depends on the proper functioning of bones, muscles, ligaments and connective tissue. It is the only science that deals with the fascia of the body, a structural element that until recently was ignored and is responsible for the proper functioning, cooperation and balance of all the elements of the body. Osteopathy has been established worldwide as an effective conventional treatment with a strong scientific background.

Osteopathic treatment is carried out with the hands of the osteopath, with manipulations and mobilizations in specific parts of the body. The techniques he practices with his hands, the so-called dislocations, release (usually without causing pain) the normal tissues (muscles, joints, ligaments, fascia, viscera), which suffocate and hinder the metabolic functions and the good circulation of body fluids (blood, lymph fluid, etc.) in order to increase joint mobility and relax hypertonic muscles.

There is no predetermined number of sessions for osteopathic treatment. The number of sessions is determined during the first visit and redefined based on the progress of the treatment. The cure depends on the type of problem, the chronicity, the temperament of the organism and adherence to the therapist’s instructions. A significant rate of improvement or even a complete remission of symptoms is often observed even from the first session.

Osteopathy is recognized as one of the mildest, non-invasive, non-pharmacological and painless treatments applied to the treatment of the causes of pain, whether acute or chronic. Most patients feel significant relief even after the first session. Some, however, may experience mild musculoskeletal pain, commonly reported to be similar to muscle “catch” from exercise. This discomfort usually subsides after 24–48 hours.
